After Wisdom Tooth Removal

Wisdom tooth extraction is a surgical procedure that requires some post-operative care to reduce the chance of infection or other complications. Immediately after surgery, a gauze pad will be placed over the extraction site, which should not be removed for at least 30 minutes, and then discarded after that. A fresh cotton gauze can be placed a second time if needed. Refrain from drinking through a straw, excessive and forceful spitting, or rinsing the mouth vigorously to ensure that you do not disturb and dislodge the blood clot that has formed or a very painful DRY SOCKET can result. Smoking is also prohibited for the same reason. Limit your activities for the next few days. As with any oral surgery, post operative swelling and discomfort are normal and expected. A prescrption for pain and or infection will accompany your written and oral instructions after surgery. Should you find the signs and symptoms to be unusual or worrisome, we encourage you to contact us as soon as possible.
